Attendance Matters

At Godmanchester Community Academy, we want the very best for every child. Regular school attendance is essential to your child’s learning, social development, and future opportunities.

Did you know?

  • Missing just one day of school per week adds up to two years of lost learning over your child’s school life.

  • Young people with attendance below 85% are far less likely to achieve GCSE success—around 90% fail to achieve five or more good grades, and about one third achieve no GCSEs at all.

  • Each year, at least 1 million children take a half-day off without permission, resulting in 7.5 million missed school days nationwide.

Attendance targets:
Children are required by law to attend school for 190 days each year, with the government recommending at least 96% attendance.

Here’s what lower attendance looks like in practice:

Attendance Days Missed Weeks Missed
95% 9 days 2 weeks
90% 19 days 4 weeks
85% 29 days 6 weeks
80%  38 days 8 weeks
75% 48 days 10 days

Why it matters:

Good attendance supports your child’s academic progress and helps them build friendships and confidence. Every day counts, so please ensure your child is in school on time, every day.

Reporting absence:
If your child is unwell, please notify the school as soon as possible by:

  • Phone: 01480 375115

  • Email: office@gca.acesmat.uk

Please do not report absences via Class Dojo, as this is not monitored during school hours.

Thank you for working with us to ensure your child gets the most out of their education.
