Beyond the classroom
At Godmanchester Community Academy, we know that every child is unique. To help each pupil thrive, we provide a wide range of opportunities, responsibilities, and interventions that go beyond the classroom. Our approach is designed to support the whole child — building not only knowledge and skills, but also confidence, resilience, and independence.
We have developed a toolkit of experiences and programmes that enable us to meet the individual needs of our pupils. Some of these are led by our own trained staff, while others are supported by external specialists who bring additional expertise.
Children take part in a variety of enriching opportunities, including:
-
Forest School – developing teamwork, problem-solving, and a love of the outdoors through hands-on learning in nature.
-
Pets as Therapy – building empathy, calmness, and communication skills through time spent with trained therapy dogs.
-
ArtScape – using creativity to explore feelings, express ideas, and boost confidence through art.
-
LEGO Therapy – supporting social communication, collaboration, and problem-solving in a fun, structured way.
Alongside these programmes, we offer a range of leadership and responsibility roles to help children develop their voice and sense of community:
-
Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTAs) promote safe and sustainable travel.
-
Peer Mediators help others resolve conflicts respectfully.
-
School Council gives pupils a say in school life and decision-making.
-
Eco Council leads our environmental projects and sustainability work.
Through our Beyond the Classroom offer, we aim to develop well-rounded, fulfilled learners who are equipped with the resilience, independence, and respect they need to succeed — both in school and beyond. Every experience contributes to a growing bank of strategies that help our pupils understand themselves as learners and engage confidently in their own learning journey.
