Godmanchester Community Academy believes there is an advantage in children spending regular periods of time, initially quite short, on different learning activities that support the work they do in class.
Home learning refers to any work or activity which pupils are asked to do outside lesson time, either on their own or with parents or carers.
To support in making home learning both engaging and progressive we have invested in a number of online platforms, physical resources and books. Teachers will also use Class Dojo as a means to provide further prompts or support by for example posting links to tutorial videos or online games.
Home learning will be set on a weekly basis by class teachers. The day home learning is set will vary across year groups.
Whilst class teachers make the final decision about what activities and tasks are set, home learning will always include:
- Daily Reading - beginning with phonic linked banded books and progressing to Accelerated Reader
- Weekly Mathletics - activities will link to current and/or previously covered units
- Weekly phonics/spelling - activities linked to the weekly phonics or spelling rules - National Curriculum spelling lists will be incorporated into weekly spellings
The Homework Policy outlines further details about the different expectations for each year group.
