Pupil Premium Strategy

What is Pupil Premium?

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to diminish the difference between them and their peers. In the financial year 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019, pupil premium funding will be £1320 for each eligible primary aged pupil. Funding is allocated for pupils who:

  • receive Free School Meals (any child who has received FSM during past six years)
  • have parents in the armed forces (Service Children)
  • are ‘Looked After Children’ (LAC)
  • are adopted from care.

    Your child could be eligible for free school meals if you’re in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400.
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190


  • The Staff and Governors of Godmanchester Community Academy are committed to ensuring provision is made which enables accelerated progress across the curriculum including English and Maths of those pupils who benefit from the Pupil Premium Grant. Whilst English and Maths are of importance, we recognise the need for a broad and engaging curriculum including experiences and additional opportunities.

Aim of provision:

  • To ensure the best opportunities and outcomes for all children recognising their individual differences and starting points.

The main barriers to educational achievement that Pupil Premium pupils in our school face are:

  • Poor attendance and increased number of broken weeks.
  • Lack of parental engagement and support both with the school and home learning.
  • Lack of life experiences and opportunities outside of the school community and immediate locality.
  • Lack of funding for school trips and residential trips.
  • Poor diet and a less-active lifestyle.
  • Poor social skills.

In order to address these barriers, we will spend our Pupil Premium funding in the following ways:

  • Provision of a Pupil Premium Leader who is responsible for tracking the progress, monitoring the provision provided and evaluating the impact of interventions of children who benefit from Pupil Premium Grant.
  • 1 to 1 and small group interventions and catch-up to raise attainment in English and Maths.
