Uniform

At Godmanchester Community Academy, our school uniform is proudly worn by our pupils and helps create a sense of pride, community, and equality. While branded items are available online from Price and Buckland at www.pbuniform-online.co.uk/godmanchestercommunity, there is no expectation for pupils to wear branded uniform.

Why We Wear Uniform

Our uniform expectations are designed to:

  • Promote a sense of pride in the school.

  • Identify children as part of Godmanchester Community Academy.

  • Support equality among pupils, reducing peer pressure linked to appearance.

  • Encourage a sense of belonging, helping children feel part of a positive school environment.

  • Prepare children for life beyond primary school, including secondary school and the workplace, where following expectations and codes of dress is important.

  • Ensure practicality, smartness, and safety.

Everyday Uniform

  • Navy blue sweatshirt, cardigan, or fleece

  • Grey or black skirts, trousers, knee-length shorts, or pinafores

  • Blue gingham dress

  • White or navy blue polo shirt

  • Sensible, plain black shoes (not trainers)

  • Plain grey, black, or navy blue tights or socks

PE Kit

  • House colour T-shirts: Edwards – Red, Peacock – Blue, Smith – Yellow, Thomas – Green

  • Navy or black shorts (indoor PE or warm weather)

  • Navy or black tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirt (outdoor games only)

  • Plain black or white trainers for outdoor games (laced or velcro)

  • Swimming trunks or one-piece swimming suit (shorts are not allowed)

  • Swimming cap

Jewellery & Makeup

On health and safety grounds, jewellery is not permitted, with the following exceptions:

  • One pair of small, plain stud earrings, which must be removed for PE lessons, including swimming.

  • Simple analogue or digital watches (no smartwatches or fitness trackers).

No makeup, nail varnish, or other adornments should be worn.

If a child comes into school wearing jewellery that is not permitted (other than a watch or one pair of small, plain stud earrings), they will be asked to hand it in to a member of staff. Parents or carers will then be contacted and asked to collect the item from the main office.

Similarly, if a child attends school wearing makeup or nail varnish, parents or carers will be informed. Staff will remind the child of the school’s uniform expectations and request parental support to ensure the guidelines are followed.

This approach helps maintain consistency, fairness, and safety for all pupils, while supporting children to develop a sense of responsibility and respect for school rules.

Labelling Property

All uniform should be clearly named with first name and last initial. Lost property will be collected centrally and returned to named owners. Unnamed items will be stored, and any unclaimed items at the end of each half-term will be donated to the school or local charities.

We ask parents and carers to support children in following these uniform expectations. Wearing uniform consistently helps children feel part of the school community, encourages equality, and supports the development of responsibility and respect for expectations — skills that will serve them throughout their education and into the workplace.
